How to Enjoy the Sun and Take Care of Your Skin

With summer around the corner we are looking forward to getting that sun-kissed glow once again, but how can we enjoy the beautiful weather without worrying about “looking older?” As we age, we become more susceptible to sunspots, wrinkles, crow’s feet, marionette lines, and so forth, making a trip outside a worrisome activity as we wonder how the sun will further affect our skin. To help make the most of the summer season, we came up with a few tips to keep your skin looking great that can be done in addition to anti-aging facials and treatments.

Stay Hydrated

It is so important to stay hydrated all year long, but especially in the summer months. Although the sun provides our skin with Vitamin D and builds up our immune system, it also removes moisture from our skin, causing it to appear and feel dry. Drinking plenty of water, using refreshing moisturizers and applying sunscreen regularly can improve the softness of your skin and keep it hydrated all day long. At the end of a long day, splash a little water on your face to let it soak in more refreshing and cooling moisture.

Exfoliate and Cleanse

Oil, bacteria, and sweat collect on our skin throughout the day and get trapped in our pores, especially during the summer months when we are exposed to higher temperatures and airborne particulates. Exfoliating can help you give your pores a break from all of the dirt, grime, and makeup, allowing them to breathe. Through exfoliating and cleansing your skin regularly, you can help maintain your youthful look. Just make sure to use an exfoliator that does not dry out your skin or cause irritation.

Eat Clean

It’s so important to maintain a healthy diet, not only to prevent our skin from aging prematurely but for overall physical health and wellness! Sometimes we tend to overlook what goes inside our bodies as we are spending so much time focusing on the outside of our bodies. The expression, ‘you are what you eat,’ is true, however. Cutting unnatural sugars out of your diet will make your skin look at least 15 years younger. You cannot expect your skin to look its best when it’s not being fed the best!
